Ever since the iOS 5 and iPhone 4S have been released, there has been a lot of action on the Siri front of the OS, that is more like speech-to-text. You talk to your iPhone and it converts your speech to text, or follows your orders and does whatever you ask it to do. But have you ever used the text to speech feature of the new iOS 5 or the new iPhone 4S? Well, if you have used, you will know that is equally cool.
The feature works with the text messages you type or the ones you get, the emails you type or the ones you get, or even web pages. The feature is called the Speak Selection feature and is hidden in the Settings app. If you want to activate it, you need to go to the Settings app on your iOS 5 running device, and then go to the General section. Here, under the Accessibility section, you will find the Speak Selection feature. Turn it on and you can enjoy another awesome feature of the new iOS 5.
Once you have this activated, tap on a text and you will get the usual pop up buttons. A new button called “Speak” will be present. Tap on that and a voice will read out loud the text you have selected. Is not that cool?
If you observe closely, you will find a difference between this and the Siri, and that difference is the voice. Apple has used a different voice for this and has not retained the Siri voice. But still, the quality of the voice is good and you can clearly understand what it is saying.
Now, you dont have to read anything anymore on your iPhone or iPad, or even iPod Touch if it is running iOS 5. Try this and let us know how it is.
