Nokia Lumia series of phone is the first line up of Windows Phone devices from Nokia. The company did see some improvement in its profit after it launched these devices, but the profits have not been enough to make the company’s investors happy. Google has been wanting to buy the smart phone division of Motorola, the Motorola Mobility division, from last year. And that is when the company decided and applied for the acquisition at a whooping $12.5 billion. But the deal can not be carried out so easily. The American, the European, and the Chinese authorities have to approve the proposal for the company to buy Motorola Mobility.

World’s number one search engine giant want to buy Motorola Mobility so that it can have come out with its own line of smart phones to accompany its world class and world popular mobile operating system, Android. Android is the number one mobile operating system which is found on devices connecting to the internet.

The American and the European authorities had given an approval for the acquisition way back in February of this year. But the Chinese authorities had still held the decision. But now, it seems like they have agreed up on the deal as well. Google says that it has got the approval from the Chinese authorities and will now get ready to complete the procedure of taking over Motorola Mobility.

“Our stance since we agreed to acquire Motorola has not changed, and we look forward to closing the deal,” Google spokeswoman Niki Fenwick said, confirming that the Chinese had approved the deal. Sources who are related to the deal and the topic but who are not allowed to comment on the subject said that the only condition that the Chinese authorities have laid down is that Android be freely available for at least five more years, and I do not think that is going to be a problem for Google.

Google, on the other hand, is thinking of giving one flagship phone to every Android manufacturer starting from the next build of Android. So the search giant is of course going to keep the operating system open source.

Apple started the nano SIM revolution with its iPhone. To make the body of the as small as possible, the company thought of cutting down the size of the SIM card as well so that the overall space required on the inside of the phone for the batter and the SIM card is reduced, which in turn reduces the overall size of the phone. This made the Apple iPhone really slim, slimmer than most Android phones. So, this, of course, did not let some people in the Android smart phone manufacturing industry sleep in peace. For example, the guys over at Motorola. This also made the people over at Research in Motion (RIM), the maker of BlackBerry, and people over at Nokia, a bit unhappy, as their phones were really think and ugly looking.

So the aforementioned three companies came together, made up an alliance, to come up with their own design of a nano SIM, just to make Apple uncomfortable and make their smart phones also very slim. But the three companies have not yet been able to come with a solution design such that all the three companies can agree up on it. But now, the case does not seem so.

Motorola and RIM have come up with a new design, a design which copies that of the Apple’s nano SIM, but with a slight modification in the design. Apple’s iPhone uses a tray to hold the SIM card, so it does not need any latch to lock the SIM card in the phone. But the Motorola and BlackBerry phones do need a latch to lock and unlock the SIM cards inside the phones. So this is the only change in the design, as you can see from the image.

The design has to be submitted at the ETSI meeting on the 31st of May. So it is kind of important for the companies to settle down on a design, and it looks like this is the one.

In what was considered the most anticipated tech sector IPO since Google, Facebook officially began publicly trading on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange today.  To get a sense of the high profile IPO, all the major news networks were literally counting down to the 11AM ET first trade as if it was the countdown for new years eve.  The stock was priced at $38 and got the initial pop that all the experts expected and traded as high as $45 in the trading frenzy.  The stock eventually settled for a modest 0.61% gain on its first day of trading as a public company.

So what’s with the obsession over the this IPO?  Some analysts have said they will be following the performance of this company very closely because they think the technology space will be counting on Facebook to lead the sector in the short term.  In the Facebook S1 filing, it revealed there’s actually some tech companies that greatly rely on Facebook as their primary source of revenue.  This just shows that social companies like Facebook and Twitter will heavily relied upon to drive the tech sector.  If Facebook continues to thrive and grow at its robust pace, up and coming startups such as Pinterest and Tumblr should thrive as well.  Companies, such as social search engine leader socialslide.com, are certainly counting on their success to drive their growth.  We could be seeing another tech boom developing before our eyes, lets hope this boom is here to stay.
